Having a newborn in Singapore is just great

In the past year, my life has changed profoundly. I used to be just an entrepreneur, working day and night in the silicon valley on my startup idea. My typical day is about coding as much as I can while doing everything else to build a business from the ground up. It was fun and intense. Now I am a dad, a product manager, and I live in Singapore. I still have the fire, but now I have diaper duty to fulfill, and it rains here. It’s just different.

There are so many things that are great about living in Singapore, and it is one of the best cities in the world if you want to raise a young kid — the high quality and affordable healthcare system, the safe, clean, and enriched environment, and the fact that good daycare centers are right within walking distances. But I’d say one of the best things living in Singapore is that it’s super affordable to hire a professional nanny who you can trust and rely on. This is especially valuable for us as first time parents, since there are so many things we do not know yet and so much work in taking care of a newborn.

We consider that we are really lucky: we hired a nanny through Confinement Angels in Singapore, and she is both skilled and dedicated for her job and her profession. So this post is really devoted for her, for her great care of our kid and the help for us, and we immensely appreciate her work here.

First, she makes great dishes for the family. I perhaps only captured just 1/10 of what she cooked. They are absolutely delicious and full of good stuff for my wife’s breastfeeding duty.

I sometimes feel very guilty when someone is doing things for me, but who can resist great food?!

Our nanny also takes care of our newborn, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, whenever we needed help. From feeding the baby every 3 hours, to change diapers, to bath, to pat my son until he’s calm and falls into sleep, she does everything well. This really helped my wife in recovering (she had minor surgery), my focus in moving the family back to the States, and Clint’s growth.

And you can see the results: Clint is growing well and more and more curious about everything surrounding him.

This is so in contrast with what I have done: I think Clint is mad at me for using his face as a canvas when I was feeding him :)
